On board my '72 750 Commando at Mid-Ohio July 11, 2010 in the GP750 race. I had many problems with my magneto this weekend giving me virtually no practice, in fact Kenny helped me and we ended up installing a battery and Boyer at the track Saturday afternoon just in time for the Twins race, which I won. Kenny has the better of me in GP750 though. Look for the cameo of Kenny right at the very end...

I created some elaborate re-edits of my 2009 Daytona videos including my Daytona win-

And some crazy slow motion stuff in this fancy re-edit of my massive Daytona crash-

Fantastic stuff.

Makes me wish i was a better rider on a better bik and had season-long sponsorship to make all the events!!!!

Doug, you and those like ya are indeed nutzo cases to most the world. Yet there is a whole wide world full of nutzo's too, 'cause it just feels so good. Women can get multiple climaxes in sex so it takes a bit more to get us off in hammer head highs.

When spinal decay from the filamentous-joint damage sets in enough you can't shake it off or work it out, give me a ping to get going a long time more.

I relate to the parts displayed, ugh, but I wasn't having any ride excitement at all, just coasting innocently or straddling a stuck throttle run away, ugh. Expensive hobby any way ya measure it.

Very exciting and educational to view and hear the details of elite's racing. As you know loss of too much shove from rear while leaned is bad ju-ju. I feel the same throttle and lean and hanging off efforts in your video as I did on Ninja and used to do on my SV650. Low power entering turns, reflex to stick knee out and hold bike down to aid front grip, moderate power through apex till relieving lean to take some real power. Too dang dangerous to me to press and risk that kind of danger any more like yoose guys do, for such little gain in zing arounds.
I really think I got that kind of riding down pat so want no more of it ever again.
I can hardly begin to touch much speed-power in sweepers on my real Combat,
so I just don't no more.

Would be extra educational to me to have an idea of the speed range each gear allows and how many gears you peddle through to top?

Another classic hobotism. Too long for a tshirt, thank God.

To answer your gears question Hobot, I have a five speed gearbox- a 70's triumph five speed cluster in an NRE (Nourish Racing Equip) gearbox shell which works excellent and is much stronger than those fragile Quaifes and more economical than those TT gearboxes from down under. However, on my first track day outing of the year I did a slightly ugly clutchless shift while very hard on the power and sheared 3 teeth off 3rd gear and cracked the gearbox shell in half as it tried to digest the pieces of 3rd. No complaints though, that gearbox lasted through 5-6 seasons of racing and I just ordered a new shell and 3rd gear.

Thank you Doug. Gearbox kit is unexpected gem to learn. I've tested a few AMC's and also found that 3rd cog set is the first to shed its teeth on power dumps. They then grind pilot senses as they beat up on their mates getting home. Does this Triumph kit look the part? If so may have to pester you for help to acquire my own. I don't need 5 gears and may be better with just 3rd stronger ones. Lowest 1st that fits, a bit taller than 850 2nd ratio and 1:1 top.

Last data points to follow your groin tightening video is what speed ranges each gear allows. Do you ever use 1st after a race start?

How much of this broken used up stuff to you keep around. Can I assume you have Burt Monroe like sacrifice alter to speed? How do you part with such parts?
How did you determine a rod bolt let go and not something else first in Daytona disaster?

hi doug, great vids, keep em coming ,3rd one looked painfull"ouch" looks to me me you needed a taller top gear, spent an awfull long time flat out, when kenny came past he was still accelerating :?:

This is what the gearbox look like Hobot, cover is a modified Triumph
Chris, Kenny came by because he used the draft and slingshot past me- I wanted to stay in 2nd so didn't draft him after the 2nd lap- I was waiting for the last lap, but he ran wide anyway.
I recall the bike was only pulling about 6800rpm, it wouldn't seem to pull any more, it was very windy day...

Been savoring your race ride side view Doug. Its more old school mix and match than other Commando like set ups. Took a bit to re-align my brain to see that football shape gear box would look cool plus give knowing Nortoneers another double take up close. Got me some Waldrige decals too : ) No bike to slap em on yet : (

Thanks for the drafting reminder that the rest of us ain't dealing with such closeness in public. Ms Peel would only pull 6000 in top, given time to creep up on last few 100's. Smiths steady needle indicated 137. sports bikes running with me indicated 140. Naked bike, my face on clocks, just long enough to be sure it was topped out. Was pleased Peel was pretty fast but main joy = nothing upsetting happened. Peel did have competitive pull to ~130 so games were done by time the open stretches allowed relaxing and pack to re-grouping.

Still tingling at your steed and deeds. Keep it up eh.
