Is it my imagination or does the couch get more resistant the longer the ride?
Today I rode for about an hour and a half. At the beginning the clutch was very easy to pull; 1970 roadster with Barnett plates within the last 2000 miles. When I was almost home I was struggling to pull the clutch. Is that just my aging and imagination that the clutch pressure is increasing, or might there actually be an increase in clutch pressure over the duration of the ride?

Yep, definitely not normal. At least the change in effort is not normal. I had Barnett plates on my 71 back in the day and the clutch was always a bear to pull in. But it didn't vary at all during a ride...it started as a PITA and it ended as a PITA! :)

(Back then I didn't yet know about stack height vs clutch effort)

If the bike is new to you or you havent been riding lately your muscles will not be ready unless your day job is as a politician.

Your symptoms can be related to a backing out adjuster. Do a clutch adjustment first. If your clutch center and/or basket are rutted such a condition will make the clutch very reluctant to disengage, but shouldn't be dependent on riding time.

Clutch cable routing and cable lubrication are part of the usual suspects, and the biggie could be that the cable assembly could have abraded internally, they do wear out. These are all part of the 101 syllabus.

There are some 300 and 600 level issues that could be operating, but you don't need a Masters degree to fix them.

Best wishes

I had a clutch cable get all wound up inside causing it to act like yours is.
