Hey kids. My main ridding partner has been fighting cancer for 10 years & was just told it's all through his liver. The hour glass isn't getting turned over this time. The Chemo makes his hands hurt so bad if he touches anything cold and he can't move the bikes controls at all. I want to buy him some heated gloves. We live by the Left Coast so winter gear is not my specialty. Anyone have opinions on some that are good?? Thanks, Glenn.

Is he safe to ride?
I warm my hands by reaching down & holding the cylinder head when stopped at the lights.

Thanks for asking but yes he's safe to ride but his hands can't touch anything cold. I loved my Motoguzzi cylinders being placed so I could rest me hands on them. The twist grip also had a cool thumb dial that worked like a crouse control so I could warm my right hand too..

I did some searching on "Google" for heated gloves, but most required a 12v hookup with the bike's electronics...prob. not a good thing w/o a high-output alternator. I did find these, however, that are battery powered and last 2-8 hours on a single charge...depending on heat setting used. You can check it out and then continue Googling for best price (Amazon for example):

Would he need heated gloves? Perhaps a really good pair of ski gloves - his body heat will keep the hands toasty, especially if he's riding above freezing.

I have these old deerskin ski gloves left me by an uncle. They're so warm I can't wear them on a bike unless it gets down below 40F (a really rare occurrence). They're thin enough that you can operate switches and zippers, but pretty warm. I looked up the company - Aris - looks like they don't make anything like them anymore, and they've been bought several times since these gloves were made and are now Isotoner.

His bike is a Ducati Monster about 5 years old so I doubt it has a hook up. I was just asking for personal experiances to see which ones people liked. It just occurred to me the local BMW shop has lots of that kind of stuff & people who do long cross country tours so I'll check them out. P.S. Who are Cabelas?? Never heard of them. Will google. Thanks.

3 ways to go w/o polar bear size clunky mittens. Heated grip wraps, heated gloves by its own batter or bike charger and thin heat packs that slip in gloves palms and backs that last hours or can be put in tight sealed jar to re-use till used up.

rutin: strengthens cappilery (sp?) walls, so blood is pumped more effeciently through the body.

vitamin E: heavily indicated for poor circulation

ginkgo biloba: improves circulation to the extremeties of the body. this herb can be quite slow acting and you may have to wait a few months to notice the full effects but the rutin and vit E shoulkd kick in sooner and then when the full effect of the herb is felt it'll be the icing on the cake.

iron: but can upset gut and liver may not tolerate it with chemo injury.

Flax oil and lecithin but not fish oils as too oxidative dangerous and over sold to public - till they find out facts later.

b complex especially Niacin which opens distal capillaries in face hands and feet.

vit. D emulsified not fish oil capsules.

Capsicum lotion, ginger lotion.

Ozone therapy, but not done by normal hospital MD's but worth looking up along with H2O2 therapy.

maybe look into heated grips too, might do the trick....just bought a bike with them this year and like them a LOT this time of year, it has hand guards and they help too....a late Monster probably has enough power to handle heated accessories

Cabela's is an outdoor gear store, like Gander Mountain or Bass Pro Shops. Peter Glenn, a winter sports supply store, might be the ticket, too.

Jeeze BillT, from your 1st post I thought you were gonna send him yours, & you could always lend him them, & get `em back in due course...

I've used Gerbings and first gear for quite a number of years, both are fantasic. If he has a Monster that new he can get a battery harness and hook them up directly, but he would want to buy the heat controller unit to adjust the temp. They would get too hot if on all the time. If I recall the battery connector comes with the gerbings. I don't remember what the first gear came with, but I just use the gerbings stuff with them. He would have to buy the temp controller. I do have a new unused pair of gerbings G3 in size large I was just thinking of selling off.

Get a pair of gloves with their own temperature control switch, most don’t have this, just an on/off switch.
