Goodwood members meeting Rickman 8 valve rebuild

Hi
Well a weekend with a chance to get a few hours in the garage on both days.
You forget how many hours it takes to clean up a pair of alloy rimmed spoked wheels.
Hubs polished along with the rims, not pristine just clean. I had them rebuilt when I raced it with stainless spokes.
I remember the cuffufle when I replaced the rims with the original sizes.lol. Drum rubbed over with Emery, shoes cleaned & the leading edge filed back. Found my spare rear sprockets I only have 38,39 & 40 teeth ran it with 40 back in the day. Next up is cleaning the disc "rust" finding the copper slip & bolting the sprocket & disc back on. Then the Joy's of lockwiring.
The cleaning list is long.

Chris, it just occurred to me, you could put your Commando engine in this Rickman chassis and the 8 valve Triumph lump in the Dresda frame.

At least Degens will talk to you again !

Hi
Best laid plans!
Wheels disc sprockets all stripped down & cleaned. Allen heads cleaned copper slipped & lockwired.
If the new bearings had turned up I would have been pleased.
New taper rollers fitted in the headstock.
I have had a set of alloy yokes sitting in a box for years & have never used them. My disc front end is homemade & uses drum forks ie 7" yokes. Well they cleaned up a treat. Unfortunately No headstock bearing cover. Sod it. Then I found out why I had never used the yokes. The spindle does not come above the headstock! Whatever frame they fitted had a short headstock.
I have a couple of Featherbed spindles left over from Norvil yokes that I previously did in. Lol.
Another visit to an engineer.

Camera broke Chris ? ;)

Or just too busy working on the bike to post? You’re forgiven if this is the case...

Wheels done complete with spindles pullback bearing sleeves & spacers etc. However cocked up as one of the special bearings is a different size!
Brakes next

Right. Quick update.
The bearing for the front wheel that I assumed was the same as the other side! Well my bearing supplier matched it up. (None stock item) he ordered them for me. Two one as a spare. They arrived but as a double row not single! Posted them back & the replacements arrived in two days. The bearing is now fitted.

Found my seat! Complete with the scars of my big crash. Jif kitchen cleaner & a green scourer cleaned it up enough to allow me to colour polish it. Most of the damage will be covered up with the number plates.
Petrol tank was in the loft & I had had it painted
Yokes turned out to be Seeley!
Who would have thought lol. Shorter head stock than a Norton one. These should be back for the weekend.
Forks stripped & polished. Parts ordered.
Need to clean up the clipons.
Engine next. Wire wool & degreaser to start, it is well furry.
Oil tank cleaned & polished.
Photos to follow next week.

Fury engine eh? Could start a new design trend there Chris !

Does the engine just need cleaning up, or you gotta go in ?

Hi Eddie
Rebuilt 2004? Need to check piston ring gap really. Then turn it over. It was built with engine build paste but it's been a long time. Just strip & check for piece of mind really.
Found my engine spares. Gaskets studs rockers pushrods. Surprised by what I have!
Chris

Thanks Paul
Amazing how the time flies.
Off to take the shocks of next.

Well problems problems problems!
Still no bottom yoke. Hopefully on Thursday I will be loaned one to use in case the engineer doesnt get it sorted soon. I need to make it a rolling chassis to get the brazing done.

Carbs cleaned. Now going through the boxes for some alloy manifolds to mount the carbs to the engine via carb rubbers.

Stripped my old forks as they have alloy dampers. One rod was snapped & the other one bent from my big crash at Lydden all those years ago. I swapped the rods & found the fork nut thread was different.? Swapped everything over. Originally my forks were shorter than Manx. These lasted for a few seasons, I then changed to Dommi length to make sure of availability. Lol

Ordered the left hand thread plug to blank off the rev counter drive. Dont know where the original went!

Other engine mount/footrest plate polished up & loosely fitted up along with the oil tank.
