I'll make this new thread to make it easy to track the updates. No one was begging me for it but I know you were thinking it.

My dad was here for a couple months help out as we did some house remodeling. He ordered a bunch of parts for the bike, I've slowly been installing them.

Just like the Norton the stock front brake on the Ducati is wooden and in-effective. While we could have just gone with a smaller master cylinder, why not go full out and add a second front disc to go along with it?

Ducati Upgrades

The tires had plenty of tread but they were weather checked. So off came the wheels to get new tires. We opted for the Bridgestone BT-45s. (I also got a new rear tire for the Cagiva). With the Conti-replicas you have to remove at least one of the mufflers to get the axle out. As a side note Ducatis have really nice cush drives, too bad Norton couldn't have copied it.

Ducati Upgrades

New caliper and stainless lines.

I've hit a standstill with the wiring. I've got the turn signals working, but only because I ran all new wiring for them. The headlight is still not working. I suspect a bad relay or just crappy wiring. I have some new micro relays on the way. I am still planning on rewiring at some point. Looking at the stock wiring you can understand why.

Ducati Upgrades

The handlebar switches are built into the stock levers so when the master cylinder and clutch went we got a new handlebar switch with turn/kill/horn/lights. We'll see if I can get it to work.

Ducati Upgrades

Rear wheel back on.

I also have carb rebuild kits (never again will I complain about the cost of Amal repair kits!), bleeding the brakes and sorting the wiring. We'll see if I can get a ride in before the end of the season.

if you think Lucas electrics are bad than you are in for a real eye opener with this bike. to think the Italians claim Marconi invented the radio, but after working around these things I highly doubt it  they even change the wire color mid way down stream.

fear not Bill - i'm sure we'll get 40-50 photo's of ever wire color in that headlight and carry on from there if this is like dave's other postings

Meh, you girls have nothing better to do that gawk at my pictures.

Hey Swoosh where did you get your new Turn, Brights on, High / Low, Horn switch from? I've been looking for a nice one to use when I change over to a Magura Master Cylinder on the Norton.

" to think the Italians claim Marconi invented the radio "

They also invented red Wine , and Speghetti . After the former at lunch , they confuse the wireing with the latter . Changeing colour along the wire
makes life more intresting and challengeing .

I thought that might be where it came from. I've looked at a few Domino switches & unless I'm wrong yours looks a little better than most. I saw a nice one on a 200'2 Moto Guzzi Le Mans but a used one is $75.00 to $100.00 if I can find one.

Ok, here we go, more wring.

So I get this all hooked up, I swear I have all the right wires in the right place. I turn on the headlight switch and the relay buzzes but no light. If I take the power wire and hook it up to the light directly... no light. If I put tester light to the power light it lights up bright.

Is there not enough juice at the battery to operate the light? I think I'm around 11.5 volts. I should get something, right?

Too small of a relay? I think it's rated at 30 amp. I didn't think a halogen bulb pulled that much.

Not at all unusual for a disconnected speedo or tacho cable to halt progress or lighting.
Check the earth (negative)
Pays to run a negative to the headlight from the battery

Not Watt, Tesla...invented radio...sued Marconi for patent infringement.

While I thought I could get away with patching into the stock harness I'm just going to bypass it for the basics. Then pray it starts when I'm done.

I don't even know if the stock "fuse" panel will survive the retrofit. Now if I just had enough time...
