So the rear brake shoes are worn to excess and I've a new pair on order to switch over and bed in the last few miles of the autumn before the norton goes into its vacbag. I was thinking I might try relining the old shoes myself, see how easy it is - anyone do this or know of suppliers/reference parts for rivets punches and linings etc ?

Just remember that most brake lining material has asbestos in it. If your drilling or sanding / fitting take care not to breath the dust. Cj

For reasons as above, Ferodo brake shoes where the only one that I know that supplied them, but no longer do.
You might find an old Brit bike shop that still has a stock, but remember you want 3/16 inch thick shoes, not 3 mm type.

There is one place, vintage brakes or some such that supply superior type linings I believe. I know I looked at them for my 71 Triumph.

I got a set of ferodo linings along with the rivets with my bike. They had been sitting in the box for 20 years. I replaced my original shoes with a set from Commando Specialties but was thinking of getting the originals put together either as a spare or to put back on if the CS are not up to task. Should those old linings still be good?

I fit the old ferodos sitting new in box after 22 yrs. Still poor braking ,sanding or arcing I'm thinking now. Breathe in that asbestos dust and tap into the 3 Billion compensation fund. Oops - it had to be your employment. That stuff is such serious bad news we mine it to ship to India as no one else will tolerate it.

New shoes arrived the other day with the pads bonded, not rivetted. "Sign of the times" I thought, but reading the workshop manual I see renewing linings was discouraged in favour of a replacement component part (on safety grounds).

Let me put it this way, asbestos lining were banned in the west for obvious reasons, so, if you can tap a screwdriver blade on to it and it doesn’t crumble, they will still work, bear in mind that if you use asbestos lining and you have cause to strip down the brake you should take precautions for working with asbestos.
