Mokau to Napier today, we'll in a car but we called into Smash palace which is close to Ohakune, found a commando in there as well as some matchless and AJS etc. I

t was whitebait season, my first experience at stand !! In mokau. . Mount Ruapehu second Pic overlooks the famous smash palace wreckers, it was part of the " Goodbye pork pie movie".

A guy called Colin Frederickson runs Smash Palace now. It was originally known as Billy Coles Yard by the locals and he supplied second hand car parts all over the world. Colin married Billy Cole's daughter and that's how he ended up there. He did props, sets and stuff for the Smash Palace film that was based out of there.

I went to school with Colin and 55 years ago we rode about a bit. Me on my 350 Matchless and he on his AJS 500 twin. We were still at high school. I call in and see him every 10 years or so. He is actually a builder not a mechanic but used to own a garage in Ohakune I think.
