Are there any of you out there who have managed to gain some experience with the new parts of the MK3 kit that Matt released earlier this year.
I'm tired of the unstable starter, who decides for himself when he intends to grab and start the engine.
Often when I start, someone stands and looks at the bike. Then it is not really fun if the starter does not grab, but just spin completely free.
I want to be able to trust the system, and hope and believe that Matt's system is so

I believe that Matt's Mk3 starter parts are in the Beta testing stage right now and not available yet.

Vidar, In the meantime you could try one of the AliExpress sprags that folks on here have used. Here is one of the threads.

Cheers,

cliffa

These parts are due to be released any day soon. See the CNW website. I am sure Matt will make an announcement.
I am also queing up ..... :)

Vidal,
try the DynoDave starter with a new sprague and sprague gear... works every time...flawless
Many years of use...checkout Dave’s AtlanticGreen Website

It seems he is sold sight unseen on the beta CNW setup. Up now to well over 1200 since 2004 of my starters and with a bit of tech support around the MKIII system some folks even remove the kicker from their bike. Granted I too have found some deficencies in the original norton setup but you have to ask and "hear me out" then you choose how to procede. You need to acknowledge the potential or real existing problems and then proceed. Also my starter DOES NOT FIX any of those problems.

I have Matt’s new starter mechanism and sprag installed. So far it works flawlessly. My old sprag and gear used to spin when trying to start until the engine got warm. Not the backfire device, I have that set to 55lbs. The metals are harder in this new setup and it uses a 14 sprag. I weighed the original and new and they weight the same.

DD starter, heavy aircraft battery cables, and a 3 phase alternator here along with new parts and a sprag from VXB bearings and it's been 100% reliable for years. That said I hedge my bets by kicking it when I know it's likely to start first kick!

Hey all,

I got the first shipment of parts yesterday. I will be starting to ship these kits out today to those that have pre-ordered. By next week I can start filling new orders. The quality of these gears and sprockets is outstanding and the kit is very aggressively priced.

I appreciate everyone being patient while this kit was developed, tested and finally put into production.

Thanks,

Matt

Matt
Do you have a link for the Kit? I looked but didn't see anything

For all that is included , and knowing it is high quality, that's a very reasonable price.

Glen

Yes, it's probably about the same price as the original kits at A.N.
So the quality taken into account, this is a very good price.

I don't see anything on your site that addresses the drive side of the starter. All I see is the updated starter and cables (both excellent advice). What is your advice on the sprag?

Hi Vidar,
I replaced the cracked 14 tooth sprag with the 18 tooth and it has worked perfectly. I kick the bike over compression before engaging the starter , so it can get a running start on the rotation. It is a 4 brush unit, but otherwise stock.
