Hey guys

Bought a 69 BSA Lightning and drove it around last summer with no probs. Was getting her ready to go this year and swapping out all the fluids. Questions re the primary case

1. I have no level or drain hole as shown in the manual (plug a and C on page 27). I just open the case and add the 10/30 in the amount given in the manual 1/3 US Pint.

- Is this normal?

2. When checking the primary chain adjustment, it say in 1/8" max 1/4"

- Is this total up down of the chain at centre or the movement in one direction only?

Thanks guys

But which manual ?

On a '69 model, the second and third screws along the lower edge of the primary case from the front should also act as the level (2nd.) and drain (3rd.) plugs? Both screw heads would have been painted red to identify them, and had a sealing washer originally. The primary case with the level and drain plugs as shown in your manual weren't used until 1970 according to the parts books.

I've always understood chain play to be the total amount of movement.

Manual was a November 1969 version. Thanks for the tip though as the guy had replaced the bolts with allen heads. I see the drain and level hole now on the outer cover.

Cheers

OK, my Kim CD November '69 1969-70 A50/A65 edition manual shows the 1969 primary chaincase oil level and drain screw detail in section B24, Fig.B38.
