BSA coil getting hot

hey guys, I just got a 70 BSA A65T , I got it to run before I bought the bike, and now its not starting because I cant get spark out of the left hand coil. 2 weeks ago I tried to start the bike and when I kicked it over the battery fell out and arched a spark and the wires caught on fire, I disconnected them and replaced the burned wires, now when I hook the battery back up and turn the key on the left side coil starts to get warm and after a while it gets hot, the right side coil is just fine and stays cold. What could the problem be?

Check that the coil to points wire isn't shorting somewhere, and check that the points are actually opening and closing? Disconnect the condenser and see if that stops the coil getting hot?

Otherwise the coil could be shorting internally?

You could swap the coils over, and see if it still gets hot? If so, then it's probably the coil itself which is at fault.
