I installed an old boyer in a 750. It was kicking back trying to start it and took several kicks to get it going. After swapping out the black box and then the stator with no improvement I finally bought a new rotor and all the problems vanished. The bike is running strong a year later. However, the girl who owns it is 140 pounds and regularly bounces off the kickstart lever. I told her she needs to put on 50 pounds. A lot of these boyers are 20 years old or more so it's understandable that the magnets weaken. I bought a new rotor from Steadfast for $50.

I dug into my box of ignition parts, found 5 boyer magnetic rotors, all deader than a stuffed mongoose. Go ahead and call me cheap but I would like to remove the old magnets and replace with new ones. Has anyone done this? It would require melting the existing glue and removing the two...
