And today I saw a plethora (what a lovely word) of triples

The Saudis had actually ordered Norton Interpols but none were available by this time so police spec. T160s were sent instead.
Apparently, Norton badges(?)/stickers(?) were put in the crates so the Triumphs could be transformed into Nortons if the Saudis had made a fuss about not receiving what they'd ordered (apparently they didn't).

Legend had it that the Saudi police rode the bikes with the chokes full on and when eventually the bikes fouled the plugs they were simply abandoned!
Totally believable.
Unless one is schooled on how an Amal choke works, it happens.

Agreed, I absolutely believe that.

The only thing I find odd about the story is why the f**k the factory fitted chokes to bikes destined for Saudi !?!

Interesting, makes me wonder what their 'Service' pool mechanics do, if anything..

Triumph sent several mechanics ( incl. Les Williams) over to Saudi to assemble and rectify minor problems ,

I've told this story before but not for a while :- about 30 years ago I was riding my T160 around locally when a guy on a gpz flagged me down. It turned out that he'd bought a Saudi T160 at an air base while working as a tech. He saw a guy riding one there and asked if there was any more, guy said yes about 10 in various conditions. Mike goes to see them and buys a runner for US$400, then rides around the base on it and is asked by another guy about the bike, anyway Mike sells the bike he's riding to the other guy for US$800 and immediately goes and buys another runner for US$400, so effectively getting his 2 kilometre (yes 2) for free. He dismantled the bike into large lumps and repatriated it , and still has it to this day. Of course now he wishes he'd bought them all

Those T160s looked fabulous.
I would love to have the Mk3 Commando (for the right price) and breathe some life back into it.
I can’t think of a less appropriate bike for the Saudi police than a Trident, I think the army version of the B40 would be more in keeping with their requirements and technical expertise.
Regards
Alan
