Well the winter has passed and we have other things on our minds, no doubt many of you me alike are getting their Commando's fit for the first run.
Today while going over the isolastics I see on the stock head steady that from all three 5/16 bolt holes a slight weep of oil can be traced from under the steady. It doesn't come from the suspected rocker covers.
My intention is to seal new bolts with a jointing compound, can anybody give a suggestion?
I have Wellseal in my cupboard, would that work?
As a note it is an RH4 head which is fitted.

A leak at any of the 3, 5/16-22 head steady fasteners may be an indication of greater consequences as the receiving threaded bores, to my knowledge, are blind, not open to the inside of the head. I'd encourage you to take a hard look at the rocker oil line to make sure that it isn't "raining" on your parade first.

The forum experts will know a lot more about the cross sectional location of the 3 threaded bores, but I'd pull the head steady and see which bore(s) is leaking, then clean around the offending bore(s) and examine carefully for cracks.

I would think that FullAuto, Comnoz and DynoDave would be able to add some real depth.

Best.

Thanks RoadScholar,
I did just that and felt for the blank but that does not prove they are not porous.
Two of them seem to leave more of a mist but the far left hole left a trickle of oil.
Afterwards I cleaned them up with acetone and could not see any cracks.

Put ‘em back in nice n clean, with Wellseal on the threads, and see what happens.

If they’re the source of your leaks, Wellseal should stop ‘em. If they’re not, it won’t.

Nice easy test.

My money is on the test being negative, ie the leak originating from elsewhere.
