2012 Ninja parallel twin

I don't know how well that will do for you in The Gravel. But good luck with that

Added a balance pipe for improved low speed running.
Not quite a new idea, Triumph came up with that in the late 60s :)

I can't say I like the looks but it could be a fun light weight bike.

Curb Weight
460.8 lbs

Max Power

53 kW 72.1 hp @ 8500 rpm
Max Torque

48.5 lb/ft 64 Nm @ 7000 rpm

What a heifer. I don't understand why they can't keep the weight down.

Easier to built strong reliable bikes cheaply if they are heavy. ?

Looked at these a few times, get very good reports (for a twin).
But that weight.....

P.S. Thats only not many lbs heavier than Nortons original Dommie Model 7 of 1949 - plunger frame, all iron engine and big steel guards. And it was only 500cc and less then half the hp of this. That was 60+ years ago though...

If I had to buy a new bike, that would be a very good candidate, it looks good (to me) and it is not as big as the litre+ bikes and it is not considered a high performance bike so it is not subject to the same licensing fees as the big ones. With 70+ HP on tap, it is fast enough to scare me.

Not recommended, it is a boring/irritating short-stroke 180` mill, no Commando type torquey feel/sound/urge, & still too porky, better to buy an RZ Yam & put a big aftermarket Banshee mill into it, that`d be a way more satisfying ride over that Kaw. Also you can buy a Chinese clone of the Kaw for 1/2 price if you HAVE to have one.

While they have improved greatly, and continue to do so, the cheapy bikes are mostly just not the quality yet, nor that level of hp ?
And they keep raving about the build quality of this particular Ninja, it is very slick to just look at..

I've no desire for it - just posting a new parallel twin since we like that basic power plant but not the 180' buzz or valve train getting thru.

New parallel twin ?
Been around almost a decade. (or more ?).

See some quite big milages too, obviously quite a strong engine.

P.S. Has a balance shaft, no vibes for the rider.
Can't remember the last recent dohc design you can hear the valve gear.

And, see mention the engine is rubber mounted.

That is the same basic engine as the Versys, a hideously ugly bike but a good all rounder, and it is also used in some national level flat track racers, saw two do well at the Santa Rosa Mile recently....and FWIW some people at ADVrider have been converting Ninjas for dirt riding, one build is at http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=562633

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I think the Versys looks quite good, with that ofset monoshock and exposed frame. Lots of plastic, but that is inevitable now

This engine originally came out in the naked-look ER-6N ?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but all the comments were along the lines of 'quircky' or 'odd' styling. Owners seem to love them though...

That neat little factory muffler setup must be commented on. Replacements are apparently noisy with less power...

That is probably one of the best features, no big ugly can hanging on the side or taking space under the seat. The bike as a whole is brilliant, reliable, fast enough, but it is probably dull as rusted axe which is why I and many others on this forum like old Nortons

IF?, - Do you mean they aren``t !?
Or do you know something we don``t?
Is S.G. having Norton stencils sprayed on Chinese Versys clones for the Xmas sales? -L.O.L.
