There is currently a Norton listed for sale on Marketplace that is listed as a 1966 Norton electra 400. Looks kinda rough and am asking was there actually such a bike? Was wondering if the owner may have it incorrectly listed. And if so was the 400 number that is listed actually the cc displacement? ie: was there a 400cc Norton produced? Can anyone here give any info on such a bike? Thanks.

Yep there was a 400 Electra a 350 navigator and a 250 jubilee
The 400 was electric start
There may have been other models my knowledge is limited on these
They are referred to as "light weight twins " the 500 and up being referred to as "heavyweight twins"

Unfortunately these articles always have to have something stupid like this: "Unfortunately, the British still liked to split the crankcases vertically rather than horizontally, which inevitably involved oil leaks." If that were my biggest oil leak concern, I'd be a happy man.

Come on! There is nothing wrong with the Electra or the Navigator. The design is sound, and it is more stylish then the Commando, IMHO. The boys at NOC seem to love it .... You just need to modify the electrics and change the countershaft sprocket.

The timing cover looks like it melted in a fire or something.
If the A10/Norton Domi shape of a timing cover is all that counts ..... I am beginning to think the British m/c industry failed in part because of misplaced nostalgia by the audience!

I will admit that the designer could have made the timing cover a little neater, especially the points cover looks misplaced. And the breadbin shaped petrol tank should have been extended.
