This just in - Gary Thwaites on Dave Watsons 1007 monster Seeley with JS lightweight internals to reduce the vibration of such a large displacemet motor.

"hi Jim
Pic from Lyddon Hill last w/end CRMC meeting, Gary had 2 wins and a 2nd on 750cc norton, 3 wins and a 2nd on 1007cc Norton, another good w/end racing from the Norton team."

But that's his 750 :)

My mistake - I used the wrong photo. The original post above has been edited & corrected and now shows the 1007cc Norton Seeley. The 1007 photo is also just below in this post and the 750 photo is at the bottom. The 750 has twin pipes - it has a 90 deg crank and I assume that the twin pipes work best. The 2 into 1 exhaust probably won't put out as much HP with the 90 degree crank. The 1007 has the JS lightweight pistons & longer rods and the stage 3 cam for lightweight lifters and 2 into 1 exhaust. Dave Watson plans on installing the lightweight JS parts in the 750 next year. With the 90 degree crank & the lightweight pistons, it may become the smoothest 750 so far.

You know how we European racer types knew it was the wrong bike.. just the number plate colour. White for 750, red for over 750.

:)

I saw Gary in action at Cadwell last month, and without wishing to detract from Jim's excellent pistons and rods (which I have a set of for a forthcoming 'special occasion'), he's just an awesomely fast rider.
Nobody else was coming close to the corner speed he was carrying - it has to be seen to be believed.

The bikes sounded VERY sweet too!

To quote some WWII fighter ace: 'no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist'

Looks like the perfect match in this instance!
