Is it better to convert my BSA Gold Star OEM battery to a sealed unit, such as a Yuasa, I think the B39-6? Are there better alternatives to the Yuasa?

Depends on whether you want reliability or originality. Some concours restorations involve putting a modern battery inside the casing of whatever old relic the old relic came out of the factory with. Glass-mat and gel electrolyte batteries are better although more expensive than regular lead-acid units. If I had to turn an old battery into a new one, I think I'd use rechargeable dry cells from cordless tools.

Hello Lillygunny
I have a Norbsa, DBD34 engine in a Featherbed frame.
I use a Burlen systems 6v dry cell battery in the seat hump and have been very happy with it.
It would nicely fit in a dummy case.

Hi Lillygunny,
There's a few alternatives on the market these days, you could buy the B39-6 and they're not too expensive, have a look here http://www.mdsbattery.co.uk/shop/produc ... oupID=2582
There are also AGM batteries available that will fit into a fake period looking battery case like this http://www.norbsa02.freeuk.com/goffybatteries.htm (scroll down to the bottom of the page) Or my personal favorite this week a home alarm system AGM battery, cheap as chips and guaranteed not to leak http://www.mdsbattery.co.uk/shop/produc ... roupID=538
Your final choice is an expensive racing battery like this http://www.ballisticracingparts.com/pro ... eries.html

I hope this helps
