Side vs center mount oil tank

hi guys, Just curious as to peoples experience with the two different oil tanks.

My Commando came stock with the central oil tank. I picked up a side mount tank, battery tray, anrrear fender with the thought of switching over to the later more common style. I have heard rumors that the later style is better for cooling, and am debating using this system on my '70. Any thoughts on the use of one over the other?

I'd use the later style, period. Easy to get later style sidecovers then too. Cheers !!!

If everything is working properly with your central oil tank, leave it alone. There are better things to spend your money on. Besides some day the central oil tank will be worth a bunch....look at how the previously couldn't give away TLS front brake is now quite valuable.

Side mount has its own isues, eg cracking around the bottom mount and rubber buffers disintergrating.

I wasn't going to chime in on this thread, but now I do remember folks whining about the bottom metal tab cracking and the buffers. Not an issue with the centre tank like mine. You can even get the small return line copper banjo gaskets from OB. Just call Ella and ask.

I prefer to keep the original tank, just thought I's explore the possibility since she's mostly apart now. I ran the central tank with little issues for over 10 years save getting lines to fit the barbs on the banjo's (should be my first clue). Just seems everyone I run into makes the statement that the central tanks don't allow enough cooling. I'm not racing the bike, just some spirited riding, and hopefully some touring. Probably older rumor anyway.
