A Triton is never a really good race bike. Mine desperately needed a six speed gearbox to be fast enough everywhere. The motor was made out of 650 parts but had a 63 mm stroke billet crank. I could choose where I was going to lose a race - either coming out of corners, or towards the ends of the straights. There was one good thing about it - it taught me a lot.
My mate's 650cc Triton was fast everywhere, except in corners. We were very evenly matched in races.
Most guys seem to build Tritons with the motor about an inch too far back - that makes the bike feel light in the front in corners - it can cause the rider to back-off, a bit.
With a Manx the weight is right forward and down. When you gas it, you lift the motor which causes it to oversteer, and feel positive.
