One of the problems with Triumph twins is that SO many parts between the models and years are similar enough to fit, without being right. My t160 is totally dry until really cane it
It gets a bit oil misty around the cylinder barrel area but not enough to drip on the floor
None of my commandos have ever leaked
It's 40 years since I've had pre unit triumphs, but I can remember rocker spindle leaks and pushrod tube and chaincase leaks
I've had a long running battle with my A10 especially with the gangly plate behind the clutch
I have ended up remaking this and fitting it with a proper oil seal
And I still have a slight rocker box leak despite my best efforts
Pushrod tube tubes and seals are a classic example. Basically, if the right tubes and seals are used, and the crush is correct, and the engine is breathing properly, they do not leak. But it is very, very confusing as to what is correct. And too few people care to check things like the crush, even if they’re using none standard head gaskets, and things have been skimmed untold times, etc. They just fit ‘em and tighten ‘em and go!
Rocker spindles are similar, use the correct o rings and the correct assembly tool, and they’re usually fine. Use a scabby old second hand o ring and no assembly tool and it’s almost definitely gonna leak.
Also, as I learnt recently, some pattern gaskets are shite. I had rocker box and head gaskets crush and basically turn into a kind of powder !
