Hi guys, I'm looking for a set of Atlas tank bages for the "67. Any chance that a member has handled one of the bagdes that come from the Philippines and have been sold on Ebay? I assume the same seller also has the really nice looking Commando TLS brakes - also of interest, but not really wanting to make the plunge for such a long distance purchase. Seasons greetings and a safe New Year to all members.

Forum member madass140 who posts regularly on this Forum, is reputable, and offers quality aftermarket Norton items. I have not personally seen his tank badges, but I believe they are better quality than the originals, being cast brass rather than pot metal.

Appreciate the input there. I saw a commando tank that looked fair, it's something I would fit after a bit of love, so will try and follow up with madass. Thanks.

Just saw your post, The tank badges have a small fault on one of them.
One side only the rear mounting screw hole, (the one under the kneepad rubber) has been drilled offset
from where it should be. it would take a bit of fettling probably with a small dremel tool to make the screw fit.
Fortunately it would be hidden by the rubber. $100/pair if interested.

G'day and happy new year from BC. I have no problem in fettleing as long as the chrome looks good. Happy to take a pair of badges. Also saw you have a commando brake master cylinder kit, happy to get one of those. And what about the Norton drum brakes, was it yourself so had some new units made up.? Cheers, Andy

yes Andy. I do the early Commando 2LS drum brake, comes with the stiffening kit fitted $350
The badges have good chrome because the chrome is on brass not like the original pot metal crap
they were made of.
I have resleeve kits for the front brake mastercylinder $58, braided stainless hose extra
or I also have complete replacement 1/2" mastercylinder which accepts the Lucas switch block
and brake light wires, comes with hose and fittings, easy to fit $150
all + shipping . just message me, I'll need postcode and city to get actual shipping cost (tomorrow)
no one working today, only me. Don

G'day again Don, nearly midnight here and getting set for the singing so just a quick one to say thanks for the info. I'll look what I have for commando front wheels tomorrow in the 'shed" and I'll message you, possibly tomorrow, but more likely the next day or so. Happy New Year !

I bought a set 5 or 6 years ago they are solid brass the screw holes under the knee grips where a little off but do not show after you glue the grips on I am happy with them

Regarding the badges, how do you paint the background of the «Norton». I mean how, not which color.

Fritz

I just paint them carefully with a small brush. I have not used primer and I have a set that I did 15 years ago that still looks good.

I think I've found a solution: Use a toothpicker and apply the enamel dropwise, so only the surrounding edges of the emblem has to be masked. If the enamel is diltuted sufficient, it works this way.
Right now I don't know how long it takes until the diluted enamel has set.

As a follow up to they badge request - just received a set from Madass and I am impressed. Quality is good and though not original parts will suit just fine - I did not want to get an original set and go through the chrome plating issues that can occur.
As for the infill methods, in the past on the timing cover I painted the infill with a brush and then wiped off the excess, not sure it will work on the Atlas tank badge but will try. Certainly on the timing cover the paint adhered fine for a number of years without any primer.
