Not a good s tart to my ride today. On the way out of my tract, a pickup truck parked on the side of the road decided to suddenly make a U-turn right in front of me. I grabbed too much front brake , and down I went. The pickup driver fled the scene immediately. I was trapped under the bike, but a local couple stopped to help out, and called 911 and the Highway Patrol. The paramedics checked me out and reluctantly agreed that I could have my wife come get me instead of taking me in to the ER. I wasn't really injured, just some sore knees and hands and such. I got home and hitched up the trailer, got my grandson to take a break from work and come help me load the bike and bring it home. It could have been worse, but I guess I'll get to find out how good the parts situation is at Norton now.

Bad luck Ken, but as you say, cudda been a lot worse. Pride aside, at least you’re fine.

That is just shame .... hard to understand how some folks behind the wheel , hope it only cosmetic damages to you and bike ! Sorry this happened ...

Not too bad.... The main thing is you got off lightly which is good news.

I am so sorry to see and hear this. It could have been any one of us that this happened to. Some car drivers are so inattentive on the phone God only knows what else they are doing in that car ! Not watching for coming traffic though .

Really glad that you are OK Ken. Have to admit that this shit makes my blood boil - the carelessness of some drivers is breathtaking! Not a very constructive emotion I know.

Fix up motor on mate:)!

Glad your OK mate
Everything on a bike is fixable !!
But body's take a lot longer to fix

Ken,

Sucks to get taken out by some fool with his head up his ass.
Count yourself lucking to still be walkin' n' talkin'.
Did you happen to get his plate number?
The damage looks superficial so may be expensive to fix, but not too involved.

Really sorry to hear this. Could have been a lot worse. Lets hope Norton can help out with parts.

You were lucky here, could have been much worse.

Do these machines have ABS?

Hard to do much of anything but take the low side when that happens. Beats the high side though.

Had a side of the road u-turner happen to me at about 65MPH. Last thing I remember was looking back at the bumper of the car heading in the other direction getting away when the bike was sliding ass end in front. Then I hit the embankment and the lights between my ears went out. That was in the 1970's. People haven't evolved much in 45 years.

Anywho, you lived to tell the tale. Big plus.

Sorry to hear this. What a jerk for driving off and leaving you there. Glad you are ok, hope the bruising isn’t too bad. I think It will be interesting how norton is to deal with on parts. Take care mate, keep us updated

Glad your ok Ken, yes it is hard to believe someone could drive away after causing someone to crash. The bike can be fixed, get well soon.

Thanks for all the kind thoughts. I've catalogued the damage and it is all fixable, mostly just new parts needed. Now that the adrenaline is long gone, everything hurts. :( But nothing's broken, and I'll be fine soon enough. Probably not riding anything for a week or so, but fortunately I do have other bikes to ride. And I am starting to think ABS might be a nice thing to have. So far, I've not owned a bike with either ABS or traction control. Might be time to think about that.
