Sitting in the garage right now and have tried to orientate on the 28 BTDC to install the Boyer.
As it looks I will have to set the timing by feel and without a strobe later.
Take a look at the picture and let me know what you think.

This is an elder Boyer, not sure which Mark but I have done as you said L.A.B. It was at 28 degrees in the picture, there is a bit of a shadow on the raised portion which may cause an illusion.
Would 3000 RPM be enough to get full advance or should one really rev the motor to 5000 as per Boyer instructs.

This should be in my Tales of Woe post but the 'Forking Numbskull who replaced the timing cover with a Mk 3 cover managed to damage both oil seals in that both springs were off and the crank seal had been fairly munched on the lower lip of the spring clip recess.

It should say which type on the (black?) box? Probably a Micro-MkIII.

When you check with a strobe you should see that it isn't fully advanced at 3000 RPM (although technically the Boyer MkIII never completely stops advancing) so you need to check up to 5000 RPM as it says in the instructions.

I see myself giving finger signals to my still to be recruited helper;)

Yes it is the MkIII.

The Boyer's 31 degrees (or whatever you set it to) of advance not occurring until 5K is one good reason to pick a different E-ignition that gets the advance all in by 3k. ;)

Not to mention the baffling pickup wire failures.

With over 30 years of running my old Boyar I never did had that problem, but then my Norton is a freak lol.

Boyer Ash? Wash your mouth out!! There was me thinking you were a maggie man.

I had a new replacement transistor plate which I installed. It wouldn't make sense to junk what already works. Somehow a budget must be kept.
There are always other things to buy and improve.

I've always found this information useful.

I set it at a less fraught 23 degrees BTDC @ 3,000rpm then check @ 5,000. My neighbours appreciate it at least.
