Has anyone come across domi naked frames rusting? It’s like spider leg brown rust in some parts. Has anyone else seen this on their nakeds? The bike has never seen water so I’m thinking it might have been like this before it was clear coated over.
Another question, are the nakeds clear powder coated or just clear lacquered over?

I have a 2016 Naked and on one of my foot control A frames I had a thumb / finger print of rust under the clear powder coat.
I ordered a replacement arm and replaced it myself.
It was minor but was bothering me.
Whoever touched it before the clear coat either had wet hands or a strong acidic diet.

It is part of the patina of the bike to have areas of discolour and rust - albeit not too much.
The parts are powder coated clear.
With apologies to 'Time Team' "ere Tony, you see the way the edge of this is knapped. It's clearly a bike of 'igh status" :)

looks like typical powder coating, maybe with no primer, which should be used, but is usually claimed to be unnecessary.....

Worth keeping a check on, mine is on my down tube and near foot controls, but is on other parts aswell but not as bad I’m gonna put a mark and see if it gets worse, my bike has had a few problems since I got it I just hope this is not something else...

Bike has Never been wet, had the bike since September and only managed to cover 275 miles, I can’t upload pictures anymore as I am no longer a vip but it would be good to see yours..

I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder but, patina (showing age and wear) has never been on my checklist of things I look for on a new motorcycle. For the factory to say that there's supposed to be some discoloration and rust under the clear powder coat really baffles me. Maybe they could up the price a little and add some worn tires, scratches and dents. I wonder what a broken head fin would cost. I'll have to remember that one in the work I turn out. If a customer complains just tell them; "That's patina, no extra charge".
Humor Rob, Charlie.

I would imagine that our black frames are no better than the Naked clearcoat frames... it’s just that you guys can see it !

Sorry about the diry under carriage. I wiped away the dirt to show the painted metal. 5 years and more than 10,500 miles. Could there be a issue with the paint application ? I think that Norton don't do paint in house .

Just to clarify, you will commonly get an element of discolouration, as well as the rainbow colouring from the weld heat and light rusting under the clear powder on a naked frame. You should NOT get large areas, areas which are raised and so on.

Think of the trend around at the moment where people buy up older vehicles and lacquer over them to keep them in the condition they were found - the Naked is picking up on this trend, albeit with ultra modern brakes and suspension, carbon fibre and a 'Naked' frame - where you see everything. If you don't like to see everything on the frame then the Naked probably isn't the right bike for you - get a black framed Blackline or Polished line Dominator and spec an aluminium tank as an option.

If you have a bike you are concerned about and it is within it's warranty (12 months on paint and trim), then report your concerns to your local dealer.
Obviously we can not account for environmental damage such as stone chips and improper maintenance.
