Decided to start my rebuild here. My rebuild is already in process. In short the bikes in my garage nearly 10 years not running. I never got serious about getting it together to run until last year. With the help of some friends I was able to ride my Norton this past summer. I put the bike together it wasn't pretty but now it's time to make it look pretty. Originally this was a roadster but the previous owner wanted a fastback so I had the extra parts but it will be a roadster once complete.

This picture is before it was running and loosely put together. More pics are to come. I have ridden this bike since this photo was taken.

That will make a nice "before" picture.

Please make sure to include lots of updates and detailed progress information, and of course plenty of photos!

This is the Norton in pieces. Finished sandblasting them. I'm leaving them in the van until I get them all to the painter.

I am in pursuit of a cafe style front fender that will fit will the least amount of fabrication. The front fender will be painted black.

I have read a harley dyna glide, and a 90's suzuki intruder may work. Any thoughts?

if you have split the crank cases please please please don't butcher the cases as per old britts. ask dyno dave for pictures how he does it

The cases are split and I have reached out to dynodave already. I followed his procedure.

I did read the old Britt's article and I was unsettled about removing that amount of material. So that is when I reached out for further advice.

I've looked at that fender CNW has. It really is beautiful. Im still sticker shocked. I'm going to have to work my way up to that fender.

Trying to find one similar of the one you have pictured. For me fiberglass would be okay.

Tonight I dropped off my frame, tank, all bits and pieces to my painter.

Now it becomes a waiting game

I did receive some.parts I ordered from RGM.

Swing arm spindle,
Front disc brake seals and two Pistons.
2 oring seal kit for the swing arm spindle

And last but not least the rubbers for the side covers.

I probably will start polishing the aluminum disc brake.

What is the Dyna Dave procedure?

"You'll enjoy the quality long after you've forgotten the price"

Indeed sir !

And it might work out cheaper than buying, and throwing away, 3 or 4 ‘bargains’ that aren’t quite right...!

(Don’t ask me how I eventually learnt that life lesson)!

Dutch and Fast Eddie. I know deep down what you two are saying. Truly I do. That is why I have decided to get a good fender. Whether or not it is CNW is yet to be determined. I will commit to hunting a fender, killing it, and bringing it home and installing it.

So for my wish list. "Clicking my heels". I want a painted black cafe style fender with silver pin stripping. And no fender brackets.

That doesn't seem to be to tall an order.

Now I'm going hunting.

Tonight I came home and decided to start polishing Aluminum. So I did. And the Norton aluminum isn't so polishable.

A pic of my set up. I sit on my stool at the wheel.

Background on the floor is the primary waiting it's turn.

Main wire harness hanging from the lights. Hanging to drain all the oil from it. The bike had a few oil leaks.

Any suggestions for buffing is much appreciated. Compound is from harbor freight.
Wheel is a cutting wheel.

Sorry to say it Joel, but although in my previous life I did plenty of alloy polishing, these days, what little I do I get done by a pro.
The cost is low, the standard is high, and it saves all the frustration you mention, plus it keeps my workshop clean!
