Anyone find and buy new good quality fork tubes recently? Steve at AMC is probably still out, which is why I have not received any response by email.

Forking by Frank in Evanston, IL was always the traditional place to get good quality forks...Hopefully, they're still in business? http://franksforks.com/

Make sure they know it's a P11 Norton that uses Matchless fork tubes. If there's any old timers there they'll know what you need. Their forks were always top notch.

Thanks Jerry. I know he does good work, I have his tubes on my commando. This time, Frank quoted a crazy high price, about double what my last set cost. I guess he is too busy producing tubes for the Harley crowd. Will keep looking

The AMC owners club spares scheme has them for about $105 each plus shipping. Can't comment on quality as I have not purchased any. I do have a set from Mike Partridge at Walridge. His price is $175.70/pr (USD). I haven't used them yet, but the appearance is pretty good. The disturbing part is the wrapping has a label "made in India". That does not fill me with confidence.

I have a set of used tubes that were in good condition that I put on my '67, so the Walridge tubes will either go on the next '67 or my '69 Ranger.

Andrew Engineering lists high-tensile 1-1/4" fork tubes for 162 GBP minus VAT + postage. That's about GBP 135,- + shipping. Price may not be the current price.

Last I spoke to Andrew Engineering, they were not making them anymore. The pricelist is from 2016.

I bought my stanchions from Walridge after being duped by another vendor (Classic British Motorcycles, UK).
At the time (2years ago?), Mike gave me the option of immediate shipping of Asian made (assume India) or a slight wait on some locally produced higher quality ones. I went with the latter and was impressed with the quality.

Yes, the pricelist isn't up to date. Sorry to hear they have stopped making the fork tubes (stanchions). If not too pitted, another possibility for the restorer is to have the oem tubes ground on a centerless grinder and apply hard chrome in a thickness as required. I used this procedure on the 1-1/8" fork tubes for my G85CS mx bike.

I will be taking delivery this week of 900m of CDS especially drawn to an OD that allows for grinding and hard chrome finish to the correct dia. We should have these for available around November.

I had to order the tube from the same source as our roadholder stanchions, but to a special OD and ID. The material is the same spec as the roadholder stanchion tube we (Andover Norton) sell, price will be the same or as close the roadholder stanchion price.

What is the inner fork tube part number of what you intend to supply please?

As per the parts book, 022823. I have proof made these and sold one pair of the samples to a P11 owner and he had no problems. These will be CDS - no seam at all, not like most with a welded seam and the weld fillet machined flush.

I believe these will also fit other AMC bikes as well as the Drg, is 1958 and for the '58 CS.
