A big thank you

I know exactly how great the Norton long opens sound with half the sound adsorption missing. So does half of Middle England. Your preference for the long pipes marks you as an educated man who appreciates style and form. Unlike the unwashed vulgar ruffians who insist on attaching those stumpy excrescences to their bikes.

Ouch.
Can't we all just get along?

How can we possibly get along with such uncultured specimens?

It’s not his fault. It’s in the breeding...

Like a Merlin from a WW2 RAF fighter. Get a couple of bikes together and you have the auditory effect of a Lancaster Bombet on full chat. Lovely!

I like to refer my long open SBNs to a fine Baritone. Not some screaming Italian tenor with a sore throat. That said, if I had those gorgeous black Ohlins, I'd go sans reflectors. They compliment the gold ones.

Contacted Clem today bike booked in for service and educated man type pipes because i still love pea shooter look of the long pipes with short baffles.

Sorry Eddie but I love the long pipes and silver paint each to his own mate , your bike looked great at Mallory was my favourite track in the 70s beast roast beef dinners when racing there

Wise choice. You're parents have great genes. You have great tastes. I'm betting Nigel has crooked teeth.:D

Honestly, the calibre of members on this site is dropping tremendously....

Given the average age, I guess it is inevitable ...;)

Don't encourage him John we're trying to make him realise the errors of his ways. I heard from a friend of a friend that he once sat on a Harley Davidson and liked it!!! Once your bike has been suitably exhausted we need to get our bikes together - now that will sound really fantastic. Even Nigel's black heart couldn't fail to be roused by such a splendiferous chorus.

I would never admit to having sat on a Harley Davidson... even though I have... Doh!

Chaps,

In two words:

Love it.

In some more words:

I've done 300 miles in 3 days running in. The bike was decatted with shorties and map from the dealer and runs superbly. The overrun popping and crackle is hilarious. EML started intermittently appearing/disappearing from 250 miles as others have reported with the EURO4, but it's running beautifully so I presume it's a sensor issue (lambda/throttle position/other?). It's not a problem and I'll get prime factors to check it out when it goes in for its first service.

Obviously the most important mod was to remove the nasty reflectors (+20hp), bar end mirrors I'll do in due course but for now she looks very stock in Ti grey. What a bike.

I'll try and upload some pictures later on.

Slight aside but on the topic of Merlin engines I can highly recommend a recent documentary called 'Spitfire'. Worth a look

And that is yet further evidence of your impeccableness sir.

If only your bike was black. Still, no one is perfect...

Well indeed.

BTW just read the posts from others on engine light - I think in my case it is just a loose cam sensor or throttle position plug as it's intermittent and didn't come on until everything started settling in - I'll check later and report back. No hot starting issues and runs perfectly.

While I think of it - What's the benefit in changing the plugs & leads?

Good question. So far, I’m not aware of anyone changing only these and reporting on a back to back comparison.

I changed them cos I have a fetish for big fat sparks, especially in what is essentially a very old tech motor. This fetish is caused by dyno testing I’ve done in the past in old Brit bikes where I’ve seen impressive gains just by increasing the spark output.

Smaller electrode plugs have the same effect as making a bigger spark. I run iridiums in all my bikes.

I changed the leads due to various reports / claims that the stock ones weren’t so good.
