Hi All,
Introducing myself. New to Access Norton.
Owner of a few classics. Here's my newest project.
Going to be giving this one a through once over.

Would like to get started by sending the gas tank out for repair.
Leaks around the mounting studs. Slight rust inside.
Looking for recommendations for this repair and possible paintwork (if needed after repair).

Regards, Ken

Last photo shows the front wheel spindle/axle nut fitted back to front. :)

Looks good, but go over it carefully and ask all the questions you want, the group is here to help you.
It looks like the stud boss might have pulled from the tank going by what looks like tank sealant around the mounts. Wonder what kind of sealant was used?

Not sure what that means? Anything like Bass ackwards? Look like a self locking nut fastened correctly. Back axle nut on front or?

I'll have to take a closer look to see if they look pulled. They "yellowish" sealer looks like old JB weld and the others look to me like fiberglass & epoxy resin.

Really hoping to find someone good with a small tig welder thats done this before.
Got a few leads, will be making some call next week.

Thanks, appreciate that. Ken

Yes.

Look like a self locking nut fastened correctly.

It isn't a self-locking nut.

Section H6, :
Refitting

7
"Grease and engage the wheel axle from the right side, fit the large axle nut (plain end inboard) and secure......."

The reduced circular section is intended to locate in the recess (looks like there's a washer in there but there isn't).75 Commando once-over

If fitted 'bass ackwards' then the larger hexagon doesn't fit as the hexagon is likely to dig into the slider.

Hexagon to the outside also allows full engagement with the spanner/wrench.

I think what Les is saying, when sitting on the bike the front axle nut is on the right side, AKA timing side.

Oops too late

Excellent.. good eye. Thanks for pointing that out. Probably a good idea to have the front wheel attached correctly. :)

I was just trying to make it perfectly clear to all that it wasn't what I meant.

Les,
That was nothing against you. Just trying to acknowledge another one of my silly blunders in a funny way. Sometime things don’t come out right in text. I’m glad your around to keep knuckleheads like me in check. LOL.

On a personal level, I'll second that.

A good carb cleaning, fresh battery and it'll likely fire right up. The tank leak looks like it would need to be welded., A leak anywhere else can be dealt with, but nothing less than a weld will yield the integrity needed at a mounting point, which is a shame, because other small leaks can be stopped without repainting.
