I have endured an unpleasant relationship with a machinist I sent crankcase to over 9 months ago. By his own admission, the required job is no more than a day's work, but it has just been one delaying excuse after another, and still my engine parts are languishing at his shop in Maine.

I am ready to pull the plug, get my parts back and find someone who actually operates as a business.. as a minimum:
  • Has an email address for communication
  • Accepts Paypal or credit card
  • Will give a firm commitment on completion date
  • Communicates with the customer if issues arrive
This is not a Norton engine, rather than my very British Ariel Square 4 MK II

The tasks required:
  • Surface case halves if required
  • line bore crankshaft and camshaft bushings
  • weld and re-thread a couple of stripped thread bosses
I would appreciate hearing from anyone with GOOD experience with a specialist who can meet those requirements.. preferably in the Texas area, but will ship as needed.

A little advice. That is one of the early Mk2 4s that has the downward pointing rear brake actuating arm. The problem with that is that when the brake is applied and the link on the rear suspension goes up, the rear brake self actuates and locks up. Ariel subsequently made an upward pointing arm and a different brake arm return spring and brake cable to rectify the problem. The parts are available from Draganfly.

You should call Keith at Big D in Dallas, he has a very reputable machine shop associate that does all their machine work. To put it in persepective, Big D is world famous for some of their race bikes and historical bike restorations; anyone they trust to do thier machine work must certainly know what they are doing.

A bonus would be dropping off and/or picking up the bits in person, and a tour of their facilities.
