Greetings all,

Some of you might remember my blue 71 commando, Strunzo. It won most improved bike a few years ago.

Wow, My commando has gears !

Strunzo always shifted kind of rough but last season it was getting ridiculous. double clutching to get into any gear..... never finding neutral.......total pain. I'd take the clutch apart, clean all the plates, ( I already put the dynodave seal in there when I rebuilt it so it wasn't gear oil making a mess.) put it back together and it would be just o.k. for about 300 miles. then it would be a gummy mess again. Strunzo was not happy. I was not happy! Therefore my wife was not happy!

So this spring I finally bit the bullet and put in new Barnett clutch plates, a new o-ring in the dynodave seal, some new rear brake shoes, and did a couple of small things, like install mini directionals, a kill switch, valve adjustments, tightened spokes, shined stuff up.....the usual stuff although I didn't get everything done till early August.

WOW!

I never realized how easy the old boy could shift now!. I can find neutral every time I need to.......and shifting into first, which was a fight before is like buttah now!
I just got back from a ride, what a complete pleasure...... maybe 200 miles put on it since the clutch went in. what a treat!

That's it..... just so excited to have this guy all tuned up, fixed up, adjusted etc. ....It's just purring, until it roars!

I figured I'd tell some people who could certainly relate!

Yeah man Karl way to go. Successes are sweet food for some of us that know exactly what ya mean about all of life around you suffering along with the sticky shifting, ugh or worse as you well know. After stealing all that time and money and mood from the rest of life and family should end up with one of the easiest to operate cycles kits ever produced, for a time ....

A new clutch center and the proper stack height did it for me. Pure bliss. Super easy pull with no slippage.

So, basically, a swap from the OEM bronze plates to modern friction material, correct?

yeah, they were the fiber plates....... the Barnett plate made all the difference. I just came back from my second ride of the day.... heavenly. I went by a classic car drive in nite at the local A&W root beer joint. Even the hotrod guys like old Strunzo.

have a great week, all.
