As the title suggests, any comments on whether an Alton would reliably handle a 1007 motor or not?

With how easily it spins an 850 with fresh rings i would be surprised if it couldn't turn over the larger size.
Whether there would be any issue transferring the load to the crankshaft (rotor nut torque etc) would, i expect, be the big question.

I would imagine that it would be the compression of the motor that would have the most effect on the ability to start it. But you may be better asking Steve Maney his thoughts as when I spoke to him a few months ago about put one of his outrigger bearings on my Ekit equipped 850 he told me he was thinking about making a starter system but was unsure as to if it was worth while given the Alton kit was on the market an the amount of work he already has to deal with. He said it was the sparg clutch the was of most concern to him with regards to reliability. My Alton has once or twice not be able to spin the motor if it stalled when hot an is close to compression but by time you realised and press the botton again a second later to goes an fires it up. My 20ah sealed gell battery is nearly 3 years old so a fresh lithium ion battery may give more punch but my battery has start bike 10 or more times one time after another when trying to setup carbs with hot motor so i think when for the spilt second it can't its like when you try to kick engine over but it coming up to compression an it a lack of leverage on the kickstart (or starter motor) just till the compression leaks away a fraction. I have 400 mile fresh bores and pistons a PW3 cam and new Hemmings big valve head but kept compression standard to give starter an easier life (they were made for standard motor after all) tried to kick it over when refitting the motor an couldn't even though i could before so now it's Altons job.
