Just visualise it not strewn with the trash all over it .

Worlds BEST Engine . Award 2011 .875 Twin .

A humble two-cylinder motor has beaten rivals that include a high-revving Ferrari V8 to be crowned 2011 international engine of the year.

Fiat's 875cc (0.9-litre) turbocharged 'TwinAir' engine was judged the best powerplant by a panel of 76 journalists and industry experts from 36 countries.

The TwinAir engine also won the small engine category (less than 1.0-litre), the best new engine award, and the accolade for the best green engine.

Is this for a motorcycle?

"If you’ve got the manically popping, staccatoed stutter of an old-school British bike in your head... sorry."

Sounds like a honda then .We can soon sort that out ."Just imagine what it’ll sound like when Abarth gets its hands on it…"

80.5 x 86 Bore x Stroke .875 cc , drags the std thing to 173 Km Hr , so has potential . Still trying to figure the rest .

So Far as Im Concerned , YES . Just bin all the Non essential paraphanalia . THOUGH , a " parralell Twin " 850
being awarded the ' engine of the Year ' makes a mockery of the press & its followers 1970s belief of its archaic
and obsolescent Nature . As one or two of us have debated , of late . :D

Haveing a ' off the shelf ' Non unitary redilly avaliable high output reliable powerplant core source is ' a bit of a relief '.

Wonder If The ABARTH version is out yet .

Note ; I appear to be a year late . However , this means were 12 months ahead as far as Availability Goes . :)
Ah well , the right centurie , anyway . :?

Just heard about this engine the other day, don't think it came to North America.

I see that engine only weighs 85 kgs ( 187 lbs)
It might go nicely in a long distance special build touring bike.

I had often wondered how a 3 cylinder Kubota diesel bike would go along the visual lines of something out of the 1930's / 1940's.
It had occurred to me many times when in the Australian outback that high HP or flash means little when the distances are so great and a less is more bike might be better with a car type engine. (Or one out of a 'lighting tower)

As noted in the first post, "360 Deg. Twin" engine (last evolution?), who'da thought that layout & variants would show up in a car in 2010 as 'international engine of the year'.

Dunno or lost track of that layout in bikes, the last users i'm aware of are Triumph, bmw & yams, doubt any turbos, dunno if any currently?

Heard about it watching this vid

It’s a cast iron block, it needs a turbo, and it needs a gearbox and primary of some sort, etc. The finished article in a bike would be heavy, and pig ugly (no offence to pig lovers).

TW… it’d be no where near as good as the twin engine you already got in your AT…

looks like the 790 & 865 bonny, was Triumph's last hurrah with the 360deg layout

Ton of uncovered good stuff out there, im gonna turn this thread into 'the parallel twin a-z' thread

Curious what bmw f800 360crank 85hp bikes were going for these days, a 06 came up 2.5k

Sooo 360 crank twin bikes are still in production today with the f800 line

As far as biggest, Triumph went in the 1,6-1,700 range.

Prob gonna see all kinda 1st time combos now with making moves millennials lol

Just use two cylinders of a Top Fuel Hemi ! . ;)

Turners Crank with the centralised mass has advantages . Even if 3 or 4 bearing , the flywhell mass can be kept inboard of the rods .

Anyone whose run souped up properly 60s or 70s ?? twin'd know a straight four is a wide & unweildy mobile chicane .
A variable speed / two speed super charger drive wouldnt hurt , on the ROAD .

There's another one that uses separate jugs, not sure if either are 360 ? I forget what times TC ran in the past, looooking.....

Interesting to me is bmw still going (& alone) with the long running & original 360 layout. Then, even came up as a car engine.

Edit - forgot about this still current one

more from the past i'll get to

The ' HotShit ' 650 crank ( Thruxton & TT ? , Std. around 67 . A bit snappy, so they dropped it .

Looks like the 6 Stud barrel 5T has a differant set up , going concentric to crankpin ( on the bolts ) with the generator W D motor .
