I have a 70 750 commando. The horn no longer works so I bought a new multi switch. I'm having a hard time figuring out the color codes. The bike has 5 wires, white, blue with a red strip. brown with a black strip, blue and blue with a white stripe. The multi switch has a brown, 2 reds 1 pink and a black. I would gladly appreciate any advice. The other issue is the bike shifts very hard from 3-4th gear. You really have to stomp on it yet it down shifts fine. Thanks for the help.

Could the "black" possibly be brown/black?

It sounds as if your "multi-switch" could be a 'Tricon' (as the original switch would have been a Triconsul).
Instructions on how to connect a Tricon switch:

Is the brown wire not used?

Brown isn't used as both buttons on the Tricon switch are 'grounds' (for horn and magneto cut-out).

As it says in the link:
"NOTE: both push buttons on the aftermarket Tricon are normally open (push to make) and are 'grounded' to the handlebars when pressed. It means the button cannot be used for the headlight flasher as per the factory diagram."

Grants site is a good resource and has corrected diagrams that are color coded
