Looking at some pictures of Buell, Monsters etc I was trying to imagine the look of my Commando with a little, modern looking, windshield/screen...just for the look as I know these little things very often put some wind and buffeting right in your eyes!
Anyone done something like this?
Thanks.
Philippe

Hi Philippe,

Have a look at the bike pics at: first-long-ish-trip-t7080.html

The jury is still out on if I like it or not. It does not cause any wind turbulence nor does it give any real wind protection. I mounted it mainly to give a bit of protection for a GPS I had mounted on the handlebars.

The screen & mounts are off a modern Bonneville. I had it on my 2001 for a little while.

I am thinking of trying to rig up something close to the 961's cafe's windscreen.

I've been looking around off and on for a couple months. Haven't found any I like enough though. The 961 cafe would be a cool one if it could be adapted to fit classic commando's.

I installed an AirTech quarter-fairing on my Mk3 this past winter and posted the result:

The windscreen comes up to my sternum, and does exactly what I wanted it to do, which was to keep air pressure off of my chest. I'm always looking over the screen. At freeway speeds there is no buffeting, just the feeling of light wind on and around my helmet (it is a motorcyle, after all). I lke it so much I'm keeping it on the bike year round. I only wish my modern bike behaved so well with its windshield in place.

AirTech fairings are a bit pricey, but come with complete hardware and paint beautifully. I'm a straight-up rider (as you can see by the buckhorn bars in the photo), so I chose a higher fairing, but AirTech can provide a fairing to match any riding posture.

Thanks Kevin, it looks nice, not too "agressive"... this should mean that any windscreen for the Bonnie can be adapted to the Commando? or was it a pain to install??
I am looking at the F16/18 from National Cycle and the Givi.. they are a lot cheaper than the Triumph one !

Hi Philippe,

The fitting was very easy, two side brackets which bolt either side of the headlamp (you use the headlamp mounting bolts)

I had a Givi screen also on the Bonnie, it had handlebar mounts which are multi-adjustable, I'd say it would fit any naked bike.

If I find any pics of the Bonnie with the screen I'll zap them up.

All the best

Kevin

I, for one, am against the look of a windscreen. My modern bike has none of that, though it took a few months to build up the neck muscles - Speedy is quite happy running for an hour or two at 7000 RPM in top gear!

(of course, riding to Key West is max 55 mph on US 1 - two lanes for 95 miles, from the south end of Key Largo, except for a four lane stretch from Marathon over the Seven Mile Bridge )

Windscreen?

I just put a Dart fly screen on my 74 ,850. I got the one for the Bonniville. It took a little bending of the mounting brackets and adjusting of the speedo / tach position to fit so it was not standing straight up. It looks great and stops the wind from buffeting my body at high way speed. Its a well made product.

I put this short one on my Honda.I dont really notice any difference to be honest.
