Last little while been getting a whiff of petrol when idling at stop lights etc. Was thinking from surrounding cars but now think it's my bike. Seems mostly from left silencer end. All seems to be running well. Normal or adjustments needed?

Is it possibly dripping from the bottom of one of the carbs? I have had two experiences with this.….float bowl screw fell off and tickler stuck open.

I checked a few times for leakage at carb bowls, connection lines and all around under tank. No signs of liquid or residue with any smell to it, just the normal layer of oiliness.

Hot weather and gas cap venting?

So left side plug heavily sooty right side lightly sooty. Unsure why. Fitted new plugs and been out about all day so need to check them.

One more thought…left carb main jet block unscrewing. This has happened on various Commandos more than once on club rides.
Yes could be. Had that happen some time ago on original amals, symptom was misfiring under open throttle, gradually getting more frequent over a few weeks. This seems different but may just be starting to happen. Will tear into carbs soon.
