at our brooklyn motorcycle show this weekend I saw this:

what's the advantage?

This is the second time I have seen this combo - featherbed frame with a commando engine (the first time was at mid ohio and it also had comstock FI). What's the advantage of this? is it just because someone wants the looks? does this make the FB a full bone shaker without the isolastics?

this one has at least the front but the other one I saw at mid-o didn't (I think, I need to find the pic of that).

Looks like it has an identity complex. An isolastically mounted motor in a featherbed frame, wow. Probably a smoooth ride.?

What's the advantage of this?

my thought is that because the featherbed frame was rightfully held in such high esteem, one could have the advantage of that handling along with the power of a Commando motor

and yes, without isolastics you basically had a 750 Atlas and vibrated your teeth out

my first thought was, yeah you were making an old but good handling bike better, but the more I thought about it the only reasons to do that instead of just building a commando is a) bragging rights of having a FB frame, and b) it looks like an old timey rocker's triton while still being all norton.

don't get me wrong, I am not trying to hate on it, I guess I am just waiting for someone to say this is a way better setup than a triton or a built up commando for "x" reasons.

Nothing wrong with a Commando in a featherbed, here's mine and it doesn't vibrate much. Just get the crank balanced right and it's sweet. Quite a bit lighter than a Commando I would think.

what's the advantage?

A practical reason for a Featherbed frame would be to get rid of the dangerous Commando isolastic handling. Another reason is just to say ya could do it. Don't know if a Featherbed-isolastic would be worse of both worlds, a heavier frame with rubbery rebounding. Anyone know the ball park mass of Feather bed?

what's the advantage?

Nice featherbed handling and iso-ed commando power. I question how stiff the featherbed frame will be with the powertrain mounted in rubber though.

Almost on topic. Some of the late Model 50s and ES-2s came out in a featherbed frame. Anybody ever ridden one?
