From AN, says Ignition Timing Tool (850 Mk3). What's it do?

What is this tool?
 
IT sets the correct top dead centre position of the piston for timing. Screw it into the plug hole fully rotate the crankshaft until the the piston stops against it.

In general, it is a piston stop screw. Specifically, it is used to stop rotation of the crankshaft when setting the timing.

That's not what LAB's pic shows. And it's listed as only for the Mk3.

It's not a piston stop. Edit: At least, not in the usual way. :)

As you pointed out it's for the 850 Mk3.

The 'ring' markings on the hexagon flat also identify it as being Unified thread.
