I have this tank for sale in the "For Sale Forum". I have had it a long time but I do not know which model it is from. Any help? Thanks.

60/61 Featherbed Manxman tank maybe. I have a picture in front of me now of a blue Manxman and the tank looks to be the same shape.

I looks like a normal Dominator/SS/Atlas tank to me.

Maybe a Jubelie or the Electra??

It's a tank for a Featherbed frame, so it isn't Jubilee, Navigator or Electra.

Also filler cap is in the centre on lightweight tanks.

Okay, Thanks L.A.B. I'd just seen a Jubelie on E-bay and it had the scalloped line across the top front to back so I was thinking it might be from a "light weight". Cj

Look at the underside - it could also be a Commando Fastback LR tank if I'm not mistaken. AFAIK they used the same upper pressing as the late Dommies but with an underside to suit the Commando frame.

Another photo of it in the for sale section shows it's for a Featherbed frame so isn't a Fastback LR tank.

Definitely looks like the tank off my atlas, which is sitting on a featherbed frame as was previously noted.

I agree, it looks identical to my old tank.

When the 650 Manxman and 750 Atlas hit the USA markets in 1961 and 1962 they came with a small tank that looked a lot like the tank in the photographs but it was lower and a bit shorter, and it had it's fuel cap on the left not the right. The cap on the right was one of the "improvements" that AMC made to the Norton bikes it produced after the original Norton works was shut down at the end of 1962. AMC used up the remaining Norton factory stocks during 1963 and as the year wore on and turned into 1964 is when you see the small tanks disappear, and all the tanks got the right-side cap by 1964.

The small tanks were about 2 U.S. Gallons, and the standard tanks like this one were around 3.8 gallons. The right-capped 3.8 tanks are the most common because they were put on just about every featherbed bike made from sometime in 1963 through 1970. The small USA tanks with the left cap pop up quite often as almost all USA 650-750 Norton production in 1961 and 1962 came with them. That makes the 3.8 tank with the left-hand cap the hard one to find in the USA.....

How's about a 69 Mercury.
