Hello There!

I am Rolf-Eigil a 53 years old petrolhead from Norway. My winterproject this year is my -73 750cc Commando. I purcased it fron Reno USA for 5 years ago.
I have since then been duing some fiddling on it( cleaning the crank and rebuilding the engine bottom to prevent oil pooling).
Painting the tank and reinforce the oil tank. I will be using electronic ignition and electronic 12v system.

But my questions to the Gentlemen:

Things I will ore have tought abouth, and what do you think.
1.Somewhhere on the net I read about a guy who install a vacuum vent to prevent wetsump and oil leak. Is there sombody out who have heard about that?
2.One carb kit.
3.Change the front brake to an 4-led drum brake from a yapanees 2 wheeler?

Hi Rolf, welcome. Lot's of information about this, do a search for "wet sump valve"

Hotly debated topic, I'm in the camp of NOTHING in the suction side. Others have other ideas. Have fun!

Does your crankcase have the breather off the back of the drive side case? If so the reed valve from Colorado Norton Works (developed by member comnoz here in the forum) is a direct bolt on.

Scroll down to "breather modification". There is a lot of information in different threads here if you search under "crankcase breather". If your crankcase does not have the factory breather off the back then it requires machining to use that product. Comnoz (Jim Comstock) has also developed one that screws into the case as a replacement for the large sump plug.

Hei Rolf Egil
Hyggelig med flere normenn i forumet.
Ja jeg har montert vakum ventil for å hindre lekasje ( overtrykk i blokka)
Har og bytta forgassere til JVC flat-slide . Meget bra.
Tar kontakt via mail

Welcome. The Comstock breather will not prevent wet sumping when the bike is not running for a few weeks, but it is very effective in returning excess oil from the sump to the oil tank when the engine is running. Also, the breather has eliminated oil leaks on my bike.

Just FYI, this thread got started twice so you have two sets of replies to the same original post.

There is a lot of information in this forum, but learning to use the search effectively can take some time. As an example if you type 4LS (for the brake question) into the upper right box then click the Google search option, you will find a lot of information regarding different 4 shoe brakes.
Here is one example: suzuki-4ls-brakes-t2287.html

Often the Google search option works better when you need a broad search to begin with. I use the advanced search a lot when I know I am looking for a post from a particular member. If you want lots of reading about reed valves, the word to try is "breather".

Good luck!

Russ, thanks for the report. The two threads have now been "merged" into one.
