I absolutely lucked TF out landing in rural "Bugger" County, stumbling over a running Combat then running into Wesley. Today his '71 started fine but stalled mysteriously 50 yd up his rocky knarly steep drive. I asked if he'd ever replaced the Boyer leads, nope he said, oh well I said, and off we rode him on his Bergman 'invisible' scooter. After our return he called to say he'd fixed it by doing what was easiest first, drained the Miki carb bowel to find water then ran fine. We both need to keep some gas on hand to make a station but especially Wes with the tiny HyRyder tank with extra thick quart worth of Caswell sealer. Likely got some spiked gas that collected a water layer.
Wes told me today he's never completely gone through his '71 since he's had it like 35 yrs - just fixes what ever it take to keep on trucking. He can haul ass in the twisties but says he has to work hard - with worn out isolastic clearances, which are still working so best leave well enough alone he says. I still think he's living on charmed time with those Boyer trigger wires so have kit waiting when he does.
Knows how to make full use of his '71's sissy bar too
