Hi Guys,
Started out with a Boyer analog many years ago (with two permanent scars on my ankle to prove it). Anyway some time back "Rick in Seattle" (I believe it was) posted advance curves of several popular ignitions, the Boyer at idle speed seemed a few degrees too high. So I converted to a stock points system and kick back was cured, however, as we know points have a few inherent draw backs of their own (AAU). This summer going back to electronic, and Pazon Surefire has been getting a lot of good press lately. So being the cheapskate that I am (you have no idea) trying to find the cheapest Pazon I stumble accross the Wassel Electronic Ignition on http://www.clubmanracing.com for $119. Installation was just like a Boyer, I will try to get it running tomorrow and report back with some results. It says on the box that it was made in the Czech Republic (...that's a good thing right?...I mean didn't they make those great YUGO cars?).

/Facepalm...Yugo? Now there's a word I haven't heard in 25 years.
'nuff said. :roll:
I shall await in ernest, the tail of your Heroic efforts. :mrgreen:

Done 1500 miles with my Wassel on mk3 850 - runs fine, no problems so far (touch wood) - very easy to install & cheap enough to carry a spare

Well I fired it up for the first time this season with my new Wassel ignition. While it did not start on the first, second, or even third kick, after I remembered to turn the kill switch on it did fire on the next kick. The difference in the start and immediate idle was instantly noticable from the previous point set up. Took it for a shake down cruise and was very pleased. Later on with the help of a neighbor I put the strobe to it and while I have no idea what the reading was at the nice and stable idle of approximately 900rpm I did see a very linear advance. It looked like this:
2000 = 18
2500 = 20
3000 = 23
3500 = 25
4000 = 27
4500 = 30
5000 = 31
Yes this was done by eye all the while telling my neighbor at what speed to hold the engine, but I think the results are good. Whether or not the Wassel ignition stands the test of time remains to be seen, but for now I'm happy with it.

Thanks for the report. I hadn't heard of this one before. Will be interested to hear how you like it after some time on it.

Looks well made, lucky you had the neighbor involved with the advance plotting process!

I'm running the Pazon Altair, a bit more expensive than their Surefire, but cheaper than the Smartfire. The advance has a little mini rise at 1000rpm then dips and rises all the way to max. This seems to coax the engine to 1000rpm at idle. I have just done a 200km ride today that involved riding south to north through Sydney Australia twice and I am absolutely happy with the driveability and strong idle characteristics. City traffic really sorts out a well behaved bike!
Float fuel level and syncro on carbs all help too!

Cheers Richard
