Hi there,

And the latest in my series of wiring questions relate to the warning light assimilator:

1) I assume I can use the original warning light assimilator when running a Boyer ignition? Is that right?

2) I found the assimilator I have in a box of parts that I got from the PO. I'm not sure why it was removed - is there any risk of hooking it up if it's broken? If so, is there any way to test it?

Thanks!!

The warning light assimilator is in fact a voltage sensitive relay, and will certainly work when running a Boyer ignition.

I prefer the solid state assimilator, part 06-2054
Plugs into the stock harness, screws into the original spring.
Replaces the fragile, primitive circuitry in the original assimilator.
Comes in Andover Norton packaging.
Comes in either positive or negative ground configurations.
I bought mine from Old Britts. but here is what it looks like:

Thanks for the tips Xtinct and Stephen. I'm going to try the original for now just to see if it will work. It may very well be broken - I'm not sure why the PO had it off the bike. He didn't throw it away, so I guess there is some hope. If it doesn't work I'll be in the market for something. Has anyone tried these: https://www.improvingclassicmotorcycles.com/products.htm

When I installed a Podtronics solid state rectifier/regulator the assimilator light stayed on all of the time, so I removed the assimilator.
Then I Installed an oil pressure sensor I purchased from Madass 140 and wired it to the unused warning light. PERFECT!

Cool, thanks lazyeye6. Yeah, I realized that it only indicates whether the alternator is producing voltage. But I'm still just excited that the assimilator and light are working :). I would love to install an oil pressure indicator of some kind. Sounds like they save engines, and I'm all for not destroying this one.

Thanks for the voltage indicator link too. I imagine it comes with leads that you put on your battery or power take off connections? I've been using a multi-meter all out here lately and could throw that in the side cover pocket even. The one you use would be smaller and more convenient for riding around with though eh.
