Agreed ! ... although, it did take me a decade plus before I started paying my way .... big thanks to all the VIP’s who helped carry me through my free-loading years ... and our Admin. guys who give so much of their time ...

When I worked for BMW Motorcycles we had a saying. "The only cheap thing on a BMW is the rider." Not sure if that applies here or not.

I paid the same amount for Lifetime Membership to the Triumph RAT Forum. Just sayin.

Just curious why there are so many regulars on this forum who are not VIP members. $39 USD for a years worth of information and entertainment seems like a pretty good deal to me.
Just my thoughts.
The nonpayers have always been a sore spot for me, here and the Britbike forum. Some guys felt since they had hundreds of post, that was a reason not to pay. Some things never change. As for the cost, a good service manual cost that much, and has less information than this forum.

There are many reasons why people would choose to be VIP members or not
It's still a free(ish) world it's surely up to the person, why worry about it?

Our local East Coast Ducati Club runs a similar forum .... paid Club members ($35) annual, number about 40 , non paid members total about 140 .... forum identifies paid up folks by calling ‘em supporting members , works for me , although if you use it maybe you should pay occasionally ....still it is a Club Forum , not a lot of tech support , certainly some but not like here .... I learned to keep my bikes running myself for 2 reasons first I like to figure things out , secondly I’m cheap .....

Not worried about it. I'm just curious about human nature.
Sorry I wasnt actually aiming that at you
It's just my opinion
It had never crossed my mind to worry about whether people are VIP members or not
Although I do feel this should be in the pub section unless it only applies to the "classic Norton commando" section
Cheers

If everybody paid their $39 US, what would "we" do with the money?
Is there a shortage of $?
If not, then what is the problem?

I agree with baz, this discussion should be held somewhere else. Just not sure where.

We are all just Jerrys guests when on this forum.

Consider the time and money Jerry is putting into this site and have been over the years. All the updates, making sure the site is safe to be on, better and bigger servers etc. He has created this forum for us to share everything Norton on but its just not floating around here by itself and it needs constant work. My website requires weekly updates and I am sure this is no different. Keeping a place like this safe is a major challenge and there is no such thing as 'free' when you are talking about maintaining an internet site

Why do we expect Jerry to do it without some help ?

While Jerry (and LAB as the main moderator) is making this a great site to visit, I think its nice for people to not just take advantage and use it but also show their support and gratitude for having a place like this available. What are we talking about here ? A little over 3.00 / month. This is not even a gallon of gas in most places.

I personally think that this is the right place to talk about it. Gets the most traffic and it is important that it is seen by as many people as possible

Since Jerry set the site up it should be his call if he wants to have a two tiered system. Why criticise people who opt to avail themseles of the membership status facilitated by the very person who set up and owns the site? Not everyone can pay even a modest amount and Jerry seems to accept and recognise this. For me there are logistical challenges of how to pay from Hong Kong, I don’t have Paypal or other electronic mechanisms for paying and at this stage of my life I am not inclined to spend time learning how to do this. In my defence when I was privileged,a number of years ago, to win the ‘most improved’ competition on here I donated the whole $300 or so to help maintain the page.

I am so glad that everyone on this forum doesn't feel this way, even though I would imagine the majority of these members actually do.

If I have any money left over after I finish my rebuild I will gladly donate ;)
Just remember, no one is a VIP if everyone is a VIP...
