Well there are lots of Vintage Vendor painting threads here but I cannot
seem to find the main one so here is ANOTHER SATISFIED CUSTOMER.
All the comments you've read are the same again too. You know nothing
worse than nothing to complain about from the personal constant in
touch service to the tailoring the job to your requirements to the
correct mix of paint and on and on.
I ve already forgotten what it cost and I dont care. What I got
was what I wanted and what is that worth?
PRICELESS.
Thanks again Brent!

...oh and he gets it done in a timely manner.

Sounds like GREAT results! Pics? Thanks for driving prices on emotionally charged things UP, UP and AWAY! "I ve already forgotten what it cost and I dont care. What I got

Well since I painted it, I'll post some pics for Onder as you request. As for prices, I charged him $640 to do the job. That included all paint (3 colors, clear, hardener) and materials, labor and return shipping. There is a lot of intricate labor, so hopefully you feel that is a fair price. Normally, my pins are 1/8", but Onder wanted his stripes a bit thinner, so I had to do some fine work to create a more delicate looking pinstripe. Let me know what YOU think. Thanks,
Brent

Brent - Do you leave it bare metal around the gas cap? When I had a local shop paint my tank a few years ago he put some sort of silver and clear coating around the inside and top of the cap area and it is starting to come off. If the bare metal works then it would be an easy fix for this problem.

Russ,
To answer your question, yes, I leave them bare, When I strip the tanks to metal, the neck gets stripped as well. Then when I wetsand and buff the final finish, I buff the exposed portion of the neck/filler as well. I don't say it's the perfect solution, but I'd rather have to polish it regularly to keep it nice, than deal with chipping paint, which is inevitable if you paint the necks. On occasion, I will paint the neck if I feel I cannot get it to polish up nicely, some are just nasty and a few chips are preferable. You can check the Gallery section of my website in the Updated area, scroll down and you will see a number of bare necks. It ain't Playboy mind you, but it's fun.

Nice work Brent and thanks for answering my question. It looks much better than wrinkled paint in the opening for sure. When and if Spring gets here I will remove my tank and turn it upside down so I can scrape, sand, etc on the filler neck. It will be good and dry by then.

Love the nice green Strat too. I have a blue Mexican Tele and a couple garage sale imitation guitars that I used to fool around with but would have to say I really suck at it. Really like your old vending machines too. My garage is out of space or I would try to find one - I have a serious hoarding problem and my dad (age 91) is the same way, but worse.

Russ

Russ,
Assuming your paint is nice on the tank, if you can protect the paint, leaving just the neck exposed, you can use an aerosol paint stripper from your local auto parts store and it will save you a lot of work. HOWEVER, you need to make sure you use something like duct tape to get under the rim of the neck and that you have everything sealed. Once the paint begins to wrinkle on the neck, you can get it off of there with a red Scotch Brite pad, then some fine steel wood, then metal polish, then wax. It sounds like a lot of labor, but as you know the area we are talking about is not large, so it goes quick.
And thanks for the kudos on my toys. It's a sickness I suppose. If you dad is 91, he must have some REALLY cool stuff!
