Hello fellow members, I will be attempting to install my motor and tranny in my bare powder coated 1974 Commando frame soon. I have looked around and found some info. on various methods, but wondering if anyone can recommend some youtube videos. Thank you for any recommendations.

All I've ever heard of is drop the frame sideways on a floor and then drop the assembled engine into it . Same as the factory did .

I have heard that, too. I have also heard that is not the best way. I watched a video today of a guy doing it that way, and it went pretty well until he got to the front mount. I was thinking it might be best to have the front mount attached to the motor, attach it to the frame, then slip the cradle with tranny in from the back of the frame to the motor.

I actually suspended my donk (fabbed a rail to go across the head steady mounts) and manoeuvred the frame into position around the suspended engine. Then lowered it to the floor (Block & Tackle) once done.

Yes, I hear you. I sold my engine hoist (crane) a few years ago when I moved. I knew would regret it.

Logically, the frame would have been dropped onto the assembled power unit.

It's easier to install the much lighter bare frame onto the power unit resting on its side and has less chance of scratching the new powder coat than attempting to fit the power unit into the frame.

No video, but start reading at November 18, 2018 here: https://www.gregmarsh.com/MC/Norton/Norton_1974.aspx

It is very easy for one person to do this way. To me, nearly impossible to manhandle the power unit into the upright frame unless you are very strong and have a helper.
