What's the story on that? Is it made from soap, plastic or chocolate? You're not going to tell us a vendor sent that to you as a new and authentic AN part are you?

No- it is an original part. The crack was noticed when friend of mine was replacing a head gasket on his MK3. Jim

Yikes! In the photo it does look like it is plastic with a casting line.

Well I guarantee I will be looking close when I am assembling stock heads from now on.

I saw one several years back that was broken completely in two and the top end was destroyed. It was such a mess it was hard to say what broke first but I think I know now. Jim

I have a hand held microscope in my tool box that I originally bought for inspecting terminal ends on sailboat rigging. This makes me think that a decent dissecting scope with a good light might be a nice addition to the workshop bench. I think I will be keeping my eyes open for one.

Actually a magnaflux setup would work well on spring caps. I have magnafluxed quite a few lifters and a lot of cranks and found a few cracks. Maybe I should make a jig to hold valve caps too. Jim
