I am getting ready to do the topend on my 850 Commando and would like some suggestions on brand of springs, valves, guides and seals..And anything special needed to make it right...

Well there's Kibblewhite, who do valves and springs etc and Mr Comstock often recommends them. Then there's JS Motorsports web site you might want to check out, Jim Does nice valves and very nice beehive springs with titanium caps.

But if you've got the head off, surely the sensible thing to do is put it on eBay... And fit a new Fullauto head!?!

The JS Motorsport http://www.jsmotorsport.com/ valves are modified Kibblewhite valves.
The Kibblewhite items are popular because they are high quality off the shelf and run under $40 a pop.
The alternatives are few,Maney http://www.stevemaney.com/products.html maybe but the sizes are restrictive for Sunday drivers unless it is at the track.
That leaves OEM type valve train components from Andover Norton etc.

Is the valve seat angle different stock and Kibblewhite, are the stock seats 46 ° and stock valves 45 ° ?
What about K Line inserts to refurbish stock valve guides to avoid disturbing the originals on road / touring engines.

What are your expectations and requirements.. Full on Racing ? or as good as it can be street riding ? Many variants are available with "overkill" to spare... IMO If your gunna DIY, buy quality parts and do it, or if not, take it to your trusted/local head machinist and tell them what you need..

With a 1/2 dozen bikes or so in your signature i think you already know the requirements!!

You may/will get toooooooo much information here about "this and that" and what happened in 1978 to a part   ........ If your going plod/stock buy your parts from ANorton, check them via the parts/workshop manual.. if they dont meet requirements ! take them back... There are literally 100's of AN agents world wide...
