I am restoring a 1975 Norton Commando 850 and I am searching the internet looking for parts sources. Any recommendations would be greatly apprecaited. I need
Exhust and mufflers. Full gasket set for decoke. Possible valve and guides. Various misc like handlebars. Disc brake rebuild kits. drive chain. I understand that there is a premium price you pay for quality and I am being drawn to NORVIL in the UK but shipping costs may be high. I am in Houston Texas. Thanks in advance

I do not believe there is an one source for the variety of parts you are seeking.
Old Britts, CNW, Commando Specialties, Venhill Cables, MikesXS and even eBay are all good depending on what you need.

Along with these, be open minded to any supplier. RGM, Norvil, in UK and Walridge in Ca., just to mention a few.

Old Britts is where I purchased (and still purchase) all the parts for my 850 Commando with the exception of the FG fastback parts I needed to convert my Roadster to a Fastback. Got those from Burton Bike Bits in the UK.

Keep in mind when shopping at RGM in the UK, their shipping price is an estimate... and usually it's ridiculously high. When it actually ships is when they determine the shipping cost and charge your card.

Look in the photo tech top tread of forum for world wide list but Baxter's and Rusk and M.A.P. and Big D are places I was glad to spend with state side. Waldridge is Cananda based but office in to avoid many border hang up costs. Some times worth checking currency exchange rates as I snagged some good deals from N.Z. though their exchange rates have improved a lot for them since then.

I have used Baxter, Old Brits and ebay all with success. Ella at Old Brits is particularly helpful. I replaced the entire starter and gear train for the starter, sprag clutch et al, some parts were cheaper thro Old Brit others from Baxter I used a mixture of both, all Norvil parts. Old Brits have exploded views and parts lists on line which I find helpful and offer a number of alternate parts, for instance I wanted new screws for the primary and gearbox outers they have Stainless Steel cap head alternates that I liked.

Colorado Norton Works have some nice custom bits too, things like stainless braided oil lines for the rockers and a neat ss cable clamp to fit on the down tube of the frame.
Just my $0.02

Tony

I've had good luck with Fair Spares America. Phil has always been knowledgeable and helpful when i
've called with tech questions and knows the variations of parts with respect to year & model. Prices seem in line with others and orders are shipped promptly.

Old Britts. Has the biggest parts selection accompanied with the best customer service.
Tell Ella Jamal sent you.
Best luck.

I think Old Britts has the best site to order from and agree service can't be beat.
Plus they have technical articles to explain how to do some of the trickier work in addition to special parts made by them, including their own electric start conversion kit.

Right on!
Some part vendors may be good, but if their website makes me download a 'Parts Catalog' to search for part numbers that must then be found in another, separate PDF document, or email them for prices .... forget it!

My only problem with Old Britts website is they have no 'search' feature. Sometimes I just do a general Google search and include the word "Norton" and the Old Britts page I was hunting for comes up.

You can search oldbritts.com from google by using the site: directive in your search string, like so:

  • site:oldbritts.com clutch basket

Works great for accessnorton.com as well!

Very nice search tip Hans!

I have had good luck with Fair Spares. He knows what he is talking about and never have I had a problem with quality. If you want upgrades CNW is a good choice.
