So like what is an undercutting gear dog ? I've been called a cheap undercutting dog before. And a gear head. Maybe the gears are all pitted and worn out on both sides ,power and decelleration. Dunno.

Its the drive dogs on the sides of the gears, as they wear the angle changes and the torque on the gear makes the dogs try and slide apart, undercutting them does the opposite, it kind of makes them hold themselves together under load.
So should I do this? my gearbox is in bits and one of our suppliers has an EDM
it is usually NOT a problem on Norton gearbox's and it is a VERY precise operation to make sure that all the dogs mate together. usually the gear tooth face's have a lot of spalling before dog wear and jumping out of gear is an issue. look closely at 1st main, 2nd pair and 4th lay as these are the most prone to give trouble
