Gents,
Does anyone know of a UK supplier of those primary case plugs with gauze vents?

Hi Nigel, friends that use that gauze just cut it out a circular piece out of a stainless perforated sheet with a hole saw and press fit into the outer case holes.I have a sheet here at home and it is similar to the 'ham can' air filter gauze that is used with the original Norton air cleaner .
Regards Mike

I've always worried about water getting in and not being able to get out with vents.

As far as heat hurting the stator, etc., I've worked on my primary right after a ride both with a chain and a belt. It felt equally hot both ways.

Fair thoughts Eric.
My thinking is that with a fine mesh, little water is likely to enter. Then by cutting out sections of the O ring seal at the bottom, any rainwater and / or condensation can escape.
Far more importantly... I'm due for a short trip to Raleigh soon... so any advice on recomended hostelries would be gratefuly received!

Relax primary vents only for decoration. Rain water forced inside dry belt case is a non issue as would just cool down the crankshaft conducted heat while drying out riding or return home. You have to about flood case to hydroplane the belt off but can put right back and carry on. Place vents where easiest or looks the coolest which we all like seeing.

I wouldn't be too worried about rust unless you're constantly riding in the pouring rain.

Before I modified my inner primary I got a set from here..

Hi.
50 micron stainless steel mesh is available.
At the angle of the primary plug, it is likely that water would run off rather than cross the mesh (unless crossing floodways).

It's all good just sealed up as per normal. But I like the sexiness of the fine screen stainless vents for sure. :P

I've run the same belt drive since the '80's with no problems. Same stator and no vents. Just kept the caps on.

Just a picture to show how fine 50 micron mesh looks.

Thanks for the photo , but just not sexy enough for my enjoyments , I'll stick to stock totally enclosed - no problems approach.
